The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Renaissance style, with fine detailing on the armor's surface. A rectangular mintmaster's mark appears at the base of the bust. The encircling Latin legend reads FERDINANDVS D G ARCHID AVSTRIE, separated by pellets and arranged around the inner beaded border. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Elaborately ornamented Spanish-style quartered shield bearing the complex dynastic arms of Archduke Ferdinand II: the first quarter displaying the arms of Hungary, the second of Bohemia, the third counterquartered with Castile and León, and the fourth counterquartered with Old Austria and Burgundy. The shield is surrounded by Renaissance decorative mantling and ornamental flourishes. The date 1565 appears at the conclusion of the encircling Latin legend, which names Ferdinand as Duke of Burgundy and Count of Tyrol. |
