The surrounding marginal legend in Latin identifies King Louis (Ludovicus) of Bohemia, by the grace of God, as the overlord authority. The inscription is separated by ornamental stops, and the beaded border frames the composition. The engraving reflects the vigorous workshop style associated with the early Joachimsthal mint, with the lion rendered in strong relief typical of hammered coinage of the period. |
