| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the full-length standing figure of St. Joachim (the patron saint of Joachimsthal) facing front, robed and bearded, holding a staff or sceptre, set within an elaborate heraldic composition displaying the quartered arms of the Schlick counts flanked by two crowned eagles displayed. The surrounding circular legend reads S. IOACHIMVS. ARDOSVS. in Latin characters, separated by rosette or pellet stops. The overall design is characteristic of early sixteenth-century German hammered coinage, with bold, high-relief die work and an irregular flan typical of hand-struck production. |
