| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Frederick III, Elector of Saxony, rendered in high relief in the late Gothic portrait style. The Elector is depicted with a prominent curled beard and elaborately braided hair, wearing a richly detailed fur-trimmed robe with an ornate chain collar visible at the truncation. The portrait fills the broad flan with considerable artistic authority, conveying both dignity and realism characteristic of early sixteenth-century Saxon coinage. A beaded inner border separates the portrait from the outer legend, which reads in abbreviated Latin: FRID' ° DUX ° SAXN' - ELEC ° IPER ° QVE' LO - C ° TENES' ° GENERA', identifying Frederick as Duke of Saxony, Elector, and hereditary marshal of the Holy Roman Empire. |
