The Netherlands government-in-exile arranged for this note to be printed in London as occupation currency was rendered void following liberation. De La Rue produced the series under wartime conditions, with distribution timed to coincide with the Allied advance through the Netherlands in 1944–45. The "facing right" designation distinguishes this type from an earlier Wilhelmina gulden issue, a collector distinction that carries no significance in the original wartime distribution logistics.
The Ministry of Finance, rather than De Nederlandsche Bank, held issuing authority — a deliberate structural choice made by the exile government to maintain direct state control over reintegration currency.
