Additional information

Curaçao's wartime administration passed to a Dutch government-in-exile arrangement after the Netherlands fell to Germany in May 1940, and the island's currency needs became a logistical problem solved largely in Philadelphia. This 1944 gulden was struck at the Philadelphia Mint under wartime contract — one of several Caribbean and Dutch colonial issues produced there when European minting capacity was either occupied or destroyed.

The .720 fineness reflects a deliberate wartime silver reduction from the prewar standard.
