Obverse description The obverse depicts the standing figure of St. Michael the Archangel in full body, facing forward, his wings spread behind him, trampling a dragon beneath his feet. The saint holds a shield bearing the cross of Zwolle in his left arm. The composition is set within a beaded inner circle, with the abbreviated city legend arranged around the periphery in Gothic uncial lettering. The style is characteristic of late 15th-century Netherlandish hammered gold coinage, with bold, deeply struck relief.

Reverse description The reverse features a large ornate quatrefoil frame enclosing an orb surmounted by a cross, the imperial orb symbolizing the authority of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III. The quatrefoil is set against a plain field within a beaded inner circle. The peripheral legend, rendered in Gothic uncial script, names Frederick as emperor of the Romans. The design follows the standard type of the Rhenish goldgulden, adapted for the Zwolle municipal mint.
