Additional information

Zwolle's gold gulden issues of the late fifteenth century were struck under civic authority during a period when the Oversticht — the episcopal territories including Zwolle — was mired in prolonged conflict between the Bishop of Utrecht and the Duchy of Guelders. Frederick III's imperial sanction gave Zwolle the minting privilege, but the city exercised it selectively, producing relatively small runs. Delmonte G#1123 is among the scarcer civic gold attributions from the northern Low Countries for this decade.
