This piece is a mule — a coin struck from two dies not intended to be used together — combining elements from the 1854 commemorative gulden issued for the marriage of Franz Joseph I to Elisabeth of Bavaria with a die from another denomination or issue. Mules of this type are almost invariably later fabrications or mint curiosities rather than official errors, produced either as souvenirs by mint workers or as deliberate rarities for the collector trade.
The aluminium composition confirms it is not a period strike; Austria was not producing aluminium coinage in 1854.
