Aanvullende informatie

Frankfurt struck these gulden during the final years of its existence as an independent free city — a status it would lose entirely when Prussia annexed it in 1866 following the Austro-Prussian War. The city's refusal to side with Prussia during that conflict, and its contribution of troops to the Austrian-aligned federal army, sealed its fate. Bismarck dissolved the city's autonomy within weeks of victory.

The issue conforms to the South German gulden standard established by the Dresden Convention of 1838, later reinforced at Vienna in 1857.
