Reverse description A standing female figure, personifying Liberty or the Maid of the Netherlands, leans upon a bible resting atop a column, while her right hand bears a spear surmounted by a Liberty cap. The composition follows the classic Dutch allegorical tradition emblematic of the United Provinces' republican ideals. The figure is rendered in fine relief at center, with the bifurcated Latin motto occupying the field to either side. The overall design reflects the standardized iconographic programme adopted across the provincial coinage of the Dutch Republic.
