Obverse description Laureate and draped second bust of King James II facing left, rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner by John Roettier. The king wears a flowing wig with voluminous curls cascading over his shoulder, and his truncation features a small elephant and castle mintmark denoting African Company gold. The peripheral legend reads IACOBVS·II·DEI·GRATIA, interrupted by the bust, and the coin is bound by a finely milled border.
