| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of George III facing right, the king's hair elaborately styled in long curling locks falling to the shoulder, adorned with a laurel wreath. The portrait, engraved by Richard Yeo, is rendered in high relief with considerable sculptural detail. The peripheral legend reads GEORGIVS • III • DEI • GRATIA •, separated by raised dot stops, running clockwise around the circumference of the coin. The field is smooth and flat, providing a clean background to the boldly modelled royal effigy. |
