| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of George III facing right, engraved by Thomas Pingo in the fourth portrait style, with finely rendered flowing hair and laurel wreath. The effigy displays a mature, dignified profile with elaborately curled locks falling behind the neck. The circular Latin legend reads GEORGIVS·III DEI·GRATIA· (George the Third by the Grace of God), disposed around the periphery of the coin. The field is smooth and unadorned, focusing full attention on the high-relief royal portrait. The workmanship reflects the refined neoclassical engraving tradition of the late eighteenth-century Royal Mint. |
