The Banco del Paraguay was a short-lived institution, operational only between 1941 and 1944 before being superseded by the Banco Central del Paraguay. This note belongs to a transitional moment in Paraguayan monetary history: the country had only recently replaced the peso with the guaraní in 1943, and the new currency's first paper issues were contracted out to De La Rue in London at a time when wartime shipping made delivery of printed currency genuinely uncertain.
The "Departamento Monetário" designation in the title reflects the bank's internal structure rather than a separate issuing authority — a distinction that trips up catalogers occasionally.
