Obverse description At center, the national arms of Paraguay comprising a five-pointed star encircled by a wreath of palm and olive branches, all enclosed within a circular legend reading REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY along the upper periphery, with the date 2000 at the lower exergue. Surrounding the central design in the field are ten historical Paraguayan coins and medallions rendered in high relief, arranged in a ring around the arms and evocative of the nation's numismatic heritage. The entire design is executed in proof finish with deeply mirrored fields contrasting with frosted relief elements.

Additional information

Paraguay's guaraní was introduced in 1944 to replace the peso, but by 2000 the currency had suffered such chronic inflation that a single guaraní — the denomination struck here — had been functionally worthless in everyday commerce for decades. This piece was never intended for circulation. It belongs to a broader Paraguayan commemorative program issued through the late 1990s and early 2000s targeting the collector market, often distributed through international numismatic dealers rather than domestic banking channels.

KM#196 is frequently encountered in original packaging, unsurprisingly.
