| Obverse description | Two standing figures face one another across a central vertical bar: at left, the Marquis Theodore I Palaeologus depicted in full regalia, and at right, Saint Martin of Tours, who presents a banner or standard to the Marquis. Both figures are rendered in the flat, hieratic Byzantine-influenced style typical of North Italian medieval coinage. A Latin legend runs along the outer border of the coin, partially visible around the circumference of the irregularly shaped flan. |

| Reverse description | Jesus Christ enthroned in majesty, shown frontally in a seated position upon an ornate throne with beaded armrests, his nimbus clearly rendered with radiating lines. He holds a book of the Gospels against his chest with his left arm, while his right hand is raised in a gesture of benediction. The figure is executed in a bold, Byzantine-inflected style with careful drapery folds indicated by incised lines. A Latin legend encircles the design in the border of the coin. |
