Reverse description Saint Ambrose (Sant'Ambrogio), patron saint of Milan, is depicted enthroned in full episcopal vestments, wearing a mitre and holding a crozier, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of late 14th-century Lombard hammered coinage. The saint is shown facing forward in a frontal seated posture with robes falling in stylized folds, flanked by a circular legend in uncial Latin characters identifying him as the patron of Milan. The die work displays the bold, somewhat naive relief typical of Visconti-era silver grosso coinage.
