| 表面の説明 | The elaborately engraved papal arms of Innocent XI (Benedetto Odescalchi) occupy the central field, featuring the Odescalchi family escutcheon quartered with the papal emblems, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, all supported by decorative foliate and scroll mantling. The shield displays three horizontal bands of goblets in the lower portion and an eagle displayed in the upper portion, rendered in fine baroque relief. The circular Latin legend reading INNOC· ·XI·PO·M· (Innocentius XI Pontifex Maximus) surrounds the composition, distributed across the left and right fields. The coin's rim is defined by a beaded inner border, characteristic of the Roman mint's production under this pontificate. |

Innocent XI — born Benedetto Odescalchi — was the pope who bankrolled the Holy League's campaign against the Ottomans, personally financing much of the force that relieved Vienna in 1683. By the time this grosso was struck, that victory had already reshaped European confidence in Catholic resistance. The papal mint at Rome operated under severe fiscal strain throughout his pontificate; Odescalchi had spent heavily from both personal and institutional reserves.
The NOCET MINVS motto — "it harms less" — references his personal impresa, adopted long before his election.
