Obverse description The elaborately engraved papal arms of Innocent XI (Benedetto Odescalchi) occupy the central field, featuring the Odescalchi family escutcheon quartered with the papal emblems, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, all supported by decorative foliate and scroll mantling. The shield displays three horizontal bands of goblets in the lower portion and an eagle displayed in the upper portion, rendered in fine baroque relief. The circular Latin legend reading INNOC· ·XI·PO·M· (Innocentius XI Pontifex Maximus) surrounds the composition, distributed across the left and right fields. The coin's rim is defined by a beaded inner border, characteristic of the Roman mint's production under this pontificate.
