| Obverse description | Central field features an imperial crown rendered in bold relief, set within a plain inner circle bordered by a fine beaded ring. The crown displays three prominent fleurs-de-lis finials rising above a crenellated base, typical of the Hohenstaufen imperial iconographic tradition. The surrounding annular legend, interrupted by pellets serving as word dividers, reads + FREDRIC., referencing Emperor Frederick II. The outer margin of the flan is decorated with an alternating pattern of pellets and stylized foliate or cross-shaped ornaments characteristic of 13th-century north Italian hammered coinage. |
