Additional information

Federico II granted Parma minting rights as part of his broader strategy of binding northern Italian communes to imperial interests through economic privilege — a policy that ultimately failed to prevent the Lombard cities from turning against him. This grosso belongs to that window of uneasy cooperation, struck while imperial authority in the Po Valley was still credible enough to matter.

MIR 902 is among the scarcer civic grossi of Emilia, with surviving examples concentrated in a handful of Italian institutional collections.
