Reverse description Enthroned figure of Saint Petronius, patron of Bologna, depicted full-length, mitred and nimbed, vested in pontifical robes. The saint holds a crozier in his left hand and a detailed architectural model of the city of Bologna in his right hand, a standard iconographic attribute identifying him as the city's heavenly protector. The composition is rendered in the flat, linear style characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the Italian Papal States in the first half of the 15th century. The circumferential legend names the saint and his city.
