| Descripción del anverso | Two standing figures depicted in high relief in the Byzantine tradition: at left, Doge Enrico Dandolo rendered in full-length frontal pose wearing ducal robes, receiving a banner or vexillum from Saint Mark (San Marco), who stands at right nimbed and similarly robed. The two figures jointly hold the staff of the gonfalon between them, symbolizing the investiture of the Doge by the patron saint of Venice. The legend ✠ • H • DANDOL` • S • M • VENETI runs around the periphery in Latin characters, identifying the Doge and Saint Mark of Venice. The abbreviated inscription DVX appears in the field between the two figures. The style is characteristic of early Venetian hammered coinage, with flat, stylized facial features and ornate garments rendered in dotted relief. |

He is depicted bearded and nimbed with a cruciform halo, wearing imperial robes, his right hand raised in a gesture of benediction and his left hand holding the Gospels. The Greek Christogram IC - XC (an abbreviation of Iesous Christos) appears in the field to the left and right of the figure respectively, divided by the nimbus. The overall composition closely follows Byzantine iconographic conventions, reflecting Venice's deep cultural and commercial ties with the Eastern Empire.
