Obverse description The papal arms of Clement XI displayed at center: a shield bearing the Albani family device surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, the whole enclosed within a decorative cartouche with foliate scrollwork. A six-pointed star appears on the escutcheon in chief. The circular legend reads CLEM·XI P·M·A·XVI, denoting Pope Clement XI in his sixteenth regnal year, with the inscription distributed along the left and right periphery of the field. The coin exhibits a finely milled border of closely spaced denticles.
