Obverse description A floriated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals set within a quadrilobe, the arms of the cross dividing the inner field into four lobed compartments adorned with foliate ornaments. The design is rendered in high relief in the Gothic style characteristic of 14th-century Milanese coinage. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding legend. The circumscription in uncial Latin letters reads across both sides of the divided legend, naming the ruler and the mint city.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)
Obverse lettering ✠ A3O VICECOMES ✠ MEDIOLANVM
(Translation: Azzone Visconti, Milan)
