Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned and bearded facing bust of the Holy Face (Volto Santo) of Lucca, depicted with long flowing hair falling to the shoulders and a draped mantle fastened at the chest. The portrait is rendered in a bold, stylized medieval manner characteristic of Lucchese grossi. A circular Latin legend runs between the inner beaded border and the outer beaded rim.
