| Reverse description | Central field depicts the Visconti-Sforza eagle displayed, wings spread and head turned, rendered in bold relief within an inner circle of rope or beaded design, consistent with Milanese late-Gothic die-cutting tradition. The eagle, a heraldic symbol of imperial authority claimed by the Sforza dukes, is shown with outstretched talons. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads DVX MEDIOLANI ET C, proclaiming Massimiliano Sforza as Duke of Milan and Count (of related territories). The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular planchet and uneven strike of hammered silver coinage of the early sixteenth century. |
