Tvrtko II ruled Bosnia twice — deposed by Ottoman pressure in 1421, then restored in 1421 after Hungarian intervention, and again displaced and restored before his death in 1443. His coinage was struck against a backdrop of constant external threat, with the Ottoman frontier effectively determining the political survival of the kingdom itself. Bosnia would fall entirely within a decade of his death.
The grosh denomination followed the Ragusan and Serbian monetary conventions that dominated Adriatic trade silver at the time.
