| Obverse description | Rampant lion passant to the left, rendered in the late medieval Gothic style with pronounced mane and clawed forepaws, occupying the central field. The figure is boldly struck in high relief characteristic of hammered coinage. A partial circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the central device, reading NOV WIL with additional letters partially visible at the margins. The coin's irregular flan results in portions of the legend being off-flan or weakly struck. |

| Reverse description | A shielded coat of arms at center, flanked at each side by three-leafed trefoil plant motifs, all contained within a quatrefoil frame with small crosses in each corner angle. The heraldic shield displays the Brunswick arms, consistent with the joint rule of Dukes William I and Henry II. A partial circular legend in uncial Latin letters surrounds the quatrefoil, reading GROS NOV WIL [...] BRVN, identifying this as a new groschen of Brunswick. The overall composition is typical of late medieval German regional groschen coinage. |
