Additional information

John II of Pfalz-Simmern held the Archbishopric of Magdeburg from 1464 to 1475 under circumstances that were perpetually contested — his appointment was itself part of the broader Wittelsbach family strategy to extend influence into northern German ecclesiastical territories. The so-called Spitzgroschen type, with its characteristically pointed flan, was the dominant small silver denomination across the central German minting region during this period, produced by numerous ecclesiastical and secular authorities whose coinages circulated interchangeably.

Magdeburg's mint output under John II is sparsely documented, making Schrock-referenced specimens the primary framework for attribution.
