| 正面描述 | Central field features the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg — divided by a bold cross into alternating hatched and plain quarters — surmounted by a patriarchal cross. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a Gothic majuscule legend in the outer field. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval German ecclesiastical coinage. |

John II of Pfalz-Simmern held the Archbishopric of Magdeburg from 1464 until his death in 1475, a tenure marked by persistent friction with the city of Magdeburg itself — the archbishops had been effectively expelled from the city since 1325 and administered their see from Halle. This groschen was struck against that backdrop of institutional estrangement, with the archiepiscopal mint operating well outside the walls of its nominal seat.
