Obverse description Central field occupied by seven lines of Latin text recording the birth and death of John George IV, Elector of Saxony, including his birthplace (Dresden), birth date (18 October 1668, rendered as MDCLXVIII·D·XVIII·OCT), death date (27 April 1694, ATMDCXCIV·D·XXVII·AP), and age at death. The numeral '18' appears within a cartouche or beaded oval frame at the base of the inscription, serving as the denomination indicator. A continuous Latin circular legend runs along the outer border, identifying the subject as Elector of Saxony and Arch-Marshal. The overall layout is typographic rather than figural, executed in the formal memorial style characteristic of late seventeenth-century Saxon commemorative coinage.
