John George II ruled Mansfeld-Eisleben during a period when the county's silver output was in serious decline — the mines that had made Mansfeld one of the most productive copper and silver districts in the Holy Roman Empire were becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to work. The counts were borrowing heavily against future production, and small silver coinage of this type circulated under genuine fiscal strain.

The twenty-one year span across this issue suggests multiple die marriages and almost certainly more than one mint master.
