The composition is characteristic of Rhenish ecclesiastical coinage of the period, with the wheel of Mainz prominent as a heraldic device. The surrounding circumferential legend in Latin reads MONETA. NOVA. RENENS. MOGV(N)., identifying this as a new money of the Rhine issued at Mainz. The lettering follows the same late Gothic capital style as the obverse, consistent with early sixteenth-century hammered silver issues of the archbishopric. |
