1 Groschen - Frederick Ulrich

Frederick Ulrich's reign over Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel was one of the more dysfunctional in the duchy's history — he was effectively sidelined by his own councillors for much of his rule, and the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War in 1618 plunged the surrounding territories into a chaos that his administration was ill-equipped to manage. This groschen dates to that first year of the conflict, before the war's economic devastation had fully ground down the Lower Saxon mints.

Welter 1232 places this among the early issues of his coinage, struck before the currency debasement of the Kipper und Wipper period that would hit Brunswick hard by 1620–1622.
