Obverse description Quartered shield of arms bearing the combined heraldic devices of the county, with a central inescutcheon displaying the nettle-leaf of Schaumburg. Three ornate helmets surmount the shield, the central one topped with a distinctive plume or crest. The surrounding legend, rendered in Latin, runs along the coin's periphery and identifies the issuing count. The overall design is characteristic of late-Renaissance German heraldic coinage.
