Obverse description Draped bust of Prince John VI of Anhalt-Zerbst facing right, depicted with long flowing hair and armored or robed attire with a prominent collar, rendered in the engraving style typical of mid-17th-century German memorial coinage. The portrait occupies the central field within a circular border. The surrounding legend, separated by dot stops, reads IOAN. D. G. PR. ANH. COM. AS. DN. S. B. I. ET. K., identifying the ruler by name and his full titular style as Prince of Anhalt and Count of Ascania.

Reverse description The central field displays the multi-quartered coat of arms of the Principality of Anhalt, surmounted by a decorative mantle or helm crest, incorporating the heraldic devices of the various Anhalt territories including the bear of Anhalt and the chequered arms of Ascania. The surrounding circular legend records the biographical and regnal data of the deceased prince in abbreviated Latin, reading NAT. 24. MART. 1621. MORT. 1667. 4. IUL. Ao REG. 25. CONI. 18., noting his birth on 24 March 1621, death on 4 July 1667, a reign of 25 years, and a marriage of 18 years. The date 1667 appears in the lower portion of the legend. The overall composition is characteristic of German memorial Groschen struck to commemorate the death of a ruling prince.
