背面描述 Reverse of the original Colditz groschen host coin, showing a facing or slightly turned bust in relief within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the late medieval hammered style characteristic of mid-15th century German groschen coinage. A circular inscription in Gothic Latin lettering surrounds the central device along the outer border, partially legible despite considerable wear. The fields display typical die-struck texture consistent with hammered silver coinage of the period. The reverse bears no counterstamp and retains more of the original host coin's design detail than the obverse.

附加信息

Brunswick's civic coinage of the mid-fifteenth century was issued under the authority of the city council rather than the surrounding duchy, reflecting a period when the Hanseatic town maintained meaningful administrative independence from the Welfen dukes. The counterstamp practice documented here was a common mechanism for revalidating older groschen within a specific monetary zone, effectively certifying foreign or worn pieces as acceptable tender without the expense of reminting.

The Kruse and Leschhorn references place this firmly within the regional bracteate and groschen literature specific to Lower Saxony.
