| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Halberstadt — an eagle displayed — surrounded by ornate foliate scrollwork and a beaded inner border. The date appears in the upper field divided by the top of the shield. The circular legend GROSSVS. NOVVS. HALBE runs along the outer periphery in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering, partially inverted at the base, consistent with hammered coinage of the period. The overall style reflects mid-16th century German municipal heraldic coinage. |
