Obverse description The field is dominated by the quartered Burgundian coat of arms, featuring the lion of Flanders prominently at center, surrounded by the heraldic quarters of the Burgundian ducal house. The shield is rendered in high relief characteristic of hammered billon coinage. A beaded inner circle borders the shield, with the peripheral legend in Gothic uncial script reading around the circumference. The overall design is bold and dense, filling the available field with heraldic imagery in the Low Countries medieval tradition.
