| Obverse description | Facing right bust of Sigismund II Augustus, bareheaded and bearded, wearing a ruffled collar and draped mantle, depicted within an inner circle. The royal effigy is rendered in a late Renaissance hammered style typical of Polish-Lithuanian coinage of the period. The surrounding circular legend, separated from the portrait by a beaded border, reads SIGIS*AVG*REX*POLO*MAG*DVX*LIT, identifying the ruler as Sigismund Augustus, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. |
