Obverse description Bearded and draped bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing a jewelled crown adorned with a cross finial. The royal effigy is rendered in the early portrait style characteristic of his Lithuanian coinage. The circular legend is interrupted by the crown at the top and continues in three lines across the lower field, reading SIGIS / POLO MAG / DVX L, abbreviating his full royal and ducal titles. The portrait displays fine detail in the crown and facial hair consistent with mid-16th century hammered coinage workmanship.
