Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the lion rampant of Flanders, set within a beaded inner circle. The lion is depicted in high relief in Gothic style, with the field of the shield strewn with small crosses. The shield is framed by a plain inner border and surrounded by the titular legend in Gothic uncial characters. The overall design reflects the late medieval Burgundian coinage tradition of the Low Countries.
