Obverse description Central field features a bold Greek cross with equal arms set within a raised inner circle, surrounded by a Gothic trefoil or foliate border typical of early Flemish gros coinage. The cross is rendered in high relief with slightly splayed terminals. Surrounding the inner circle, a continuous circumscription in Latin Gothic lettering reads the ruler's title and name. The overall design follows the Tournois-derived groat tradition adapted for Flemish comital coinage of the early fourteenth century.
