Obverse description Central field depicts a stylised castle gate flanked by two towers, rendered in a bold Gothic manner characteristic of Brabantine coinage of the late 13th century. The castle motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which extends an ornamental border composed of twelve arcs, each containing three pellets. The circular legend, struck in raised Gothic capitals, reads MONETA BRUXEL, identifying the Brussels mint. The overall composition is strongly geometric, with the architectural device commanding the full width of the inner field.
