| Beschrijving voorzijde | Three-quarter facing portrait bust of James III rendered in a naturalistic, Renaissance-influenced style, widely regarded as one of the finest royal effigies on any medieval Scottish coin. An annulet is placed on the inner circle behind the king's head. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the surrounding legend reading IACOBVS : DEI : GRACIA : REX : COTRV, identifying the king by name and divine right. The lettering is executed in uncial script characteristic of late medieval Scottish coinage. The overall composition reflects the artistic sophistication of the Edinburgh mint during this period. |
