| Beschrijving keerzijde | Long voided cross pattée dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a small ornamental device including mullets and pellets within a beaded inner circle. The cross is elaborately cusped or ornamented at the terminals, typical of the Light Issue coinage of James III. A tressure of arcs borders the inner circle. The mint name and devotional legend are distributed in uncial lettering around the outer margin, separated by stops, referencing Edinburgh as the place of issue. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The "Light Issue" designation refers to a deliberate reduction in the groat's silver content and weight, part of James III's contentious monetary policy during the early 1480s that contributed directly to the aristocratic rebellion of 1482 — the same crisis in which the king was briefly imprisoned at Edinburgh Castle by his own nobility. The debased coinage was deeply unpopular with merchants and creditors alike.
S.5280A is a scarce variety within an already thinly documented issue.
