Obverse description Crowned facing effigy of James III within a beaded inner circle, depicting the king with flowing hair visible beneath a large ornate crown with fleurs-de-lis. The bust is rendered in a flat, stylised medieval manner characteristic of Scottish hammered coinage of the period, with a plain collar or neckline beneath. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters is separated from the effigy by a beaded border, and the overall flan is irregular in shape as typical of hand-hammered production.
