Obverse description Full-face crowned effigy of James III occupying the central field, the king depicted with flowing hair falling to the shoulders on either side of the face. The crown features five tall fleur-de-lis rising from a circlet. The bust is rendered in the characteristic late medieval Scottish hammered style, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, separated by pellet stops, runs in uncial Latin characters between the inner circle and the beaded outer border.
